Boy Scout Camp

I know that it is now September, but back in July, I was passing all the fireworks stands and it made me think of going to Scout Camp back in Tennessee.  I know you are asking yourself how are the two related,  you just have to read to find out.   Going to Scout Camp in Tennessee was much different than going to scout camp in Arizona.  For one, we were the only Mormon troop there.  In Arizona there would be several other troops that were there that were Mormon.  So  this made the troops in Tennessee more diverse.  There many more other religions there and even a black troop.  But we did stand out. I think it was either day two or day three, and I really can not remember how it started, but we were in the mess hall and we started  a massive food fight.  After all was said and done, we were in big trouble.  So much trouble they talked  about kicking us out of camp.  But they didn't and we cleaned up the mess, ...

Random Notes

Three weeks of vacation, and going no where, really sucks.  I need to get back on a sleep schedule for when I go back to work on Monday. I have figured that dating at my age sucks, even worse when I was a teenager.   My mom once told me she meet a nurse at the chemo clinic that had a crush on me when I was in Junior High.  Never found out who it was.  Wish I knew who.   Speaking of crushes, I did find a girl that said she had a crush on me a long time ago.  We lived a very long distance away and never really got to meet.  Well she could not wait for me, so she got engaged.  That make me 0 and 2 in the long distance relationship area! I love politics, but I really hate it right now.  Maybe it will be better once the Primaries start.  Always keep on telling myself that I can go back, but then I go, no those people are crazy! Oh and Marc Bercovici sucks as quarterback!!!!

Walter Mitty 2

Was at my dad's for Father's Day, and we were watching "Walter Mitty" on one of the movie channels.  Walter Mitty is this character who always dreamed of doing great things but never did them.  I always thought of myself of some what a Walter Mitty, but as I look back at my life I can see some pretty amazing things that I have done. This is part two.   Part one was my life until the age of 21.  So now we will see what I have done since then. Got a job working at Mesa Community College Bookstore.  Worked there for about two months.  Next job was with Kieth Riggs Plumbing.  Worked there a year before being laid off.  Went on to work for General Plumbing in the warehouse.  Worked there for 17 years, until I was laid off.  Really loved working there, except for a few in the management.  Was hard to lose that job. Was elected as a Republican Precinct Committeeman for about ten years.  From 1998 to 2000 I was the Third Vice Ch...

Walter Mitty Part 1

Was at my dad's for Father's Day, and we were watching "Walter Mitty" on one of the movie channels.  Walter Mitty is this character who always dreamed of doing great things but never did them.  I always thought of myself of some what a Walter Mitty, but as I look back at my life I can see some pretty amazing things that I have done. When I was 9 or 10, my parents were working for a production company as extras.  My dad can be seen in the Movie Used Cars.  But this did turn into a job for the whole family one day.  My parents were going to a shoot and took me and my sister along.  Got us out of school for half the day.  We shot a Visa commerical and were paid I think $50 for just walking back and forth at the airport. At age 11 I started racing go carts.  First race out I crashed sideways into the wall going about 55 mph.  Was hurt really badly, but did not realize how badly until many years later.  Raced for a few months until...

The Search to Being Normal

All my life I have wanted to be like everyone else.  I wanted to be normal.  But some will question what true normal is.  I can remember being young, that I knew, I was not like everyone else.  I was born with both physical and some mental deficits.  Everything on my left side is about 1/2 inch short than my right.  I also have a weakness on that side.  The mental is dyslexia. I remember as a child, have to wear braces on my legs.  I do not remember how long I was wearing them, but I do remember seeing them in my closest when I was about 6.  When we moved to Arizona, I remember being called out of class and have people make me preform exercises to see what my range of mobility was.  Going to the nurses office every year for the scoliosis test was fun.  They would look at my spine and then say, oh it is the Close kid and that was it. My left foot turned in, and there was no heel tow action in it.  Over time, I learned how t...

The Rough Times of Racing! The failure.

Of all the accidents that I have had, they do not count as failures in anyway.  The go-carting accident was a lack of experience in conditions that were very poor at the time.  But none of them can compare to what happened to me at a race at Firebird East. I had been racing the Porsche 944, and me and car were not working as one.  I don't know what it was.  By this time I was an experienced racer who had come off of racing two different cars and both those cars where totally different from the other.  But for some reason things were not coming together as quickly, and this did not have my dad happy either.  My dad built this car in about a month with the help of two kids from the neighborhood.  I did not do hard any work on it at all.  For my dad, I think this was to prove to all of the people out there that he really did know Porsche's.  Most of the cars that were out there were basically built by one person, so were a little different...

My experience with Soccer

Like most Americans, I am not a stranger to the game of Soccer.  Most people would not know it, but when I was 13, I played full back for my schools team.  We were so good, that we went undefeated in the city and won the Championship of the city.  We were only scored on once and that was in the Championship game. The next year I was bulled by a Mexican kid, that was not even on the team the year before, so I did not play on soccer team at all. My next experience with soccer would be on my mission.  Soccer or as they call it around the world Football, was one of the main sports played over there.  Every kid played, and it seemed like we got into a match with them everyday.  It was fun, and here I am playing this game in a suit and Doc Martins. Plus during this time in 1990, Ireland had qualified for the World Cup and did well.  For almost a month we did not get in to teach when a match was on.  But then again, If it was the FA Cup or Champions L...
